Impassive nature is perhaps simply a collection of rites that we have surmounted, the most ancient of the superstitions by which the universe tried to justify itself. It was so by instinct, founded on laws of its own and drawing out of them a reason for life. Then, with advent of the spirit, nature became arbitrary, the divine will, and rites shaped themselves accordingly. Now it has reverted to a law mechanism- that is why instinct is emerging again and the true ritual of rationalistic epochs is art (the ritual of the instinctive subconscious).

An allegory of the savage. A leaf and an eye, the inner one, to return to the earth, to take root and rediscover nature: Alessandro Roma’s exhibition ‘The eye of the inner leaf’ is an allegorical journey into the depth of the unconscious, a celebration of instinct which, through the pictorial gesture, turns into a pure vision of the savage that lives in us. From wall paintings to works on paper, the gaze is lost in a selva of primordial forms where every element depicted is opposed to the others with an expressive force on its own, testifying that, in nature, everything has a raison d’être. Keepers of this order are the three sculptures from the series ‘My head inside the nature’ (2019), silvan divinities with phytomorphic appearance and apotropaic powers, which refer to a distant time when man and nature lived in total symbiosis. So it is with the unconscious, where instincts and archaic desires coexist, originating a state of pre-knowledge of ourselves and reality. Roma’s latest exhibition leaves the path to return to the savage and to a mythical, irrational and timeless dimension as the magical explanation of the world.

La natura impassibile è forse semplicemente un complesso di riti da noi superati, la più antica delle superstizioni con cui l’universo tentò di giustificarsi.
 Essa fu tale per l’istinto, che si fondò sulle sue leggi e ne trasse ragione di vita. 
 Poi, con l’avvento dello spirito la natura divenne arbitrio, volontà divina e i riti vi s’informarono. 
 Ora è tornata legge, meccanismo ‒ ecco perché l’istinto riemerge e il vero rito dei tempi razionalistici è l’arte (= il rituale dell’inconscio istintivo).

Un’ allegoria del selvaggio.
Una foglia e un occhio, quello interiore, per tornare alla terra, farsi radice e riscoprirsi di nuovo natura: The eye of the inner leaf di Alessandro Roma è un viaggio allegorico nelle profondità dell’inconscio, una celebrazione dell’istinto che, attraverso il gesto pittorico, si trasforma in una visione pura del selvaggio che abita in noi. Dalle pitture murali ai lavori su carta, lo sguardo si perde in una selva di forme primordiali dove ogni singolo elemento raffigurato si contrappone all’altro con una forza espressiva che gli è propria a testimonianza che, in natura, tutto ha ragion d’essere. Custodi di quest’ordine le tre sculture della serie ‘My head inside the nature’ (2019), divinità silvane, dall’aspetto fitomorfo e dai poteri apotropaici, che rimandano a un tempo lontano, in cui uomo e natura vivevano in totale simbiosi. Così è per l’inconscio, dove istinti e desideri arcaici convivono originando uno stato di pre-conoscenza di noi stessi e della realtà. La strada segnata da questa mostra è dunque quella del ritorno al selvaggio e a una dimensione mitica, irrazionale e senza tempo quanto la spiegazione magica del mondo.
